HERO IMAGE

Your hero image is part of your YouTube “channel art,” which you can change and customize at any time. YouTubers don’t always change this, but agencies and companies often update this image depending on the campaign they are promoting (see example below).

Here is all the information on creating and changing your hero image. You can download the template for an easy guide on how to create the perfect channel art for the best results on all devices.

VIDEO TITLE FORMATTING

[campaign name] | [spot title]

  • ie. “Don't let it interrupt your life | Money”

*Do not include something in your title that is misleading/ that your video won’t deliver on - this will decrease your watch time and increase your bounce rate.

PLAYLIST CREATION

Creating and managing playlists is very simple. This will vary from page to page, but bundling groups of videos together will make it easy for viewers to find other content similar content that you’ve created. Some examples of playlists include “New videos to Netflix in December,” “How to Videos,” or even “Popular Uploads.”

For more information, visit YouTube’s create and manage playlist help section.

SETTING A THUMBNAIL

Video thumbnails let viewers see a quick snapshot of your video as they're browsing YouTube. After your video is finished uploading, you can choose a thumbnail from the three options YouTube automatically generates, or upload your own. Here are the instructions on how to add video thumbnails. If you want to learn more about how to create an effective thumbnail, click here.

PIN A FEATURED VIDEO

When companies want to promote a campaign or new content, they will often change the hero image and pin a new featured video at the top of their page.  YouTube calls this the “channel trailer,” which you can learn more about here.
